ENGAGEMENT SESSION AT NEWTOWNE NECK STATE PARK IN LEONARDTOWN, MARYLAND

I have mixed feelings about Maryland summers.

PROS:

So much green - the state really comes to life in the summer

We have a ton of flowers and trees that bloom and absolutely thrive in the summer, too!

It doesn’t get unbearably hot - and if it does, it doesn’t last long

A ton of beaches - just mind the jellyfish on really hot days!

Boating and fishing is huge here, too.

CONS:

The mosquitos. I grew up camping A LOT, and even up north in “mosquito territory” in Canada and I have never been completely eaten alive like I do in Maryland. I do not leave the house after 4pm when it’s warm out without jeans or bug spray on.

Haley and Gordon were beneficiaries of all that Maryland summers have to offer. The good and the bad.

We were blessed with lush, green grass, a beautiful sunset, and the park wasn’t very crowded. Unfortunately, it was HOT. I believe it was in the 90’s when we started shooting. They were absolute troopers and powered through the sweat. We even finished off the session getting our feet in the water a bit so hopefully that helped them cool off!

When it came time to photograph in the field, I thought it would be better because we had more shade and it felt cooler in that side of the park. Well, it was just our luck when I happened to set their blanket down to sit on next to a literal swarm of mosquitos and bugs. It was insane. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I walked over there after we were done shooting and realized the fog of bugs they were sitting in.

No complaints at all from them. And I’m so sorry they had to endure extreme heat and bugs but I think these photos prove worth it 100 percent!
